Chapter 383 The Unsettled Souls
Chapter 383 The Unsettled Souls
"Halt! Civilians, for your own safety, please leave this place!"
As the three approached the dock, a soldier dressed in shogunate uniform stepped forward and shouted.
Xu Ning stepped forward first and instinctively reached for the gourd, only to find it empty. He then remembered that he had let Zheping hold it for the time being.
"Commoners? That's hilarious! Standing here like this, what part of us looks like commoners? Can't you see the man next to me is wearing the Coral Palace's military uniform?"
The shogunate soldier scrutinized Teppei, nodded, and said, "He looks like a soldier, but you don't. So, what are you doing here?"
I've led troops before, so why don't I look like one?
Xu Ning cursed inwardly, "You're so blind to people," but he chuckled and said, "This is hilarious! You actually asked me what I'm doing here. Look at your Shogunate army uniforms, all over the place, and those weird furry boots you're wearing. And the weapons you're carrying are all over the place. You can't even pass for the real Shogunate army. Are you trying to imitate them by checking people? Get your officers out here. We've come from the Snake Bone Mine to make contact."
The shogunate soldier glanced down at the winter-wearing military boots he was wearing and couldn't help but take a step back.
At that moment, a burly, tall man emerged from a green tent nearby and waved impatiently at the three of them, saying, "I don't know what you're talking about. This is private property. Don't talk to my men anymore, or I'll let you taste the power of a hammer."
"This is absolutely hilarious... I'm dying of laughter! Seriously, did any of you even look at me properly, or listen to a single word I said?"
Xu Ning was truly furious at this moment.
I've made a name for myself out there, and you can't even recognize me standing here? What kind of intelligence officers are you?
Even if you can't recognize it, what about the code? Why isn't there any reaction?
Just as the burly man was about to drag a hammer out of the tent, the man disguised as a shogunate soldier quickly stepped forward and said, "Sir, they are soldiers from the Coral Palace who are preparing to defect to our side."
The burly man glared at him. "Do you recognize them? How can you be sure there aren't any spies among them? Did you exchange the password?"
"It's already correct."
"When? Which sentence? I didn't hear it."
"Uh, every single sentence has it, it's 'I'm dying of laughter'."
The burly man roared, "Who came up with this code? How can anyone understand it!"
The soldier cautiously replied, "Perhaps...it is...you?"
The burly man was momentarily speechless, then ignored the talkative soldier and turned to Xu Ning and the other two, saying, "Well then, welcome to the Fools. I am your contact, Maritime Warrant Officer Borrenka. From now on, you will call me 'Commander,' understand?"
"But you guys are really something else. This guy in front of us is so nonchalant. Your general has some good taste, haha. And he even brought a witch with him. Do you think this is a game? Alright, give me Nathan's report, then get on the ship. We're leaving here soon to go back to Winter."
Xu Ning reached up and rummaged around on her waist for a moment, then put her hand down. "You're leaving already? Not planning on doing anything else?"
Borrenka snapped coldly, “That’s not your question, soldier. And you forgot to add ‘sir.’ Now, obey orders. Don’t make me repeat myself.”
Seeing that he couldn't get anything out of Xu Ning, Zheping, who was standing to the side, saw that Xu Ning couldn't help but rub his waist again, so he shoved the wine gourd he had hidden behind his back into Xu Ning's hand. "Stop touching it, just do what you need to do. Talking is a waste of time."
As soon as Xu Ning got his hands on the wine gourd, he raised it and took a sip. "If you had told me I was coming alone, the problem would have been solved by now."
Seeing Xu Ning drinking, Borrenka suddenly shouted, "You...you drunkard...get out of here and leave!"
Xu Ning swung his left fist, which was holding the gourd, and struck Borrenka in the chin. With a sound of bones shattering, the maritime warrant officer was sent flying.
"Is this how you disrespect me? Is this how you recognize people? Is the gourd my true form?"
Xu Ning casually knocked down several soldiers who rushed at him, and was about to step forward to finish off this Borrenka when, unexpectedly, this guy was also a ruthless person. He got up, grabbed a soldier next to him, and threw him over Xu Ning's head.
Xu Ning didn't hold back, casually breaking the unfortunate man's neck. Then, he reached out and touched his forehead, summoning his wind elemental body, which followed the fleeing Borenka to see what this guy was up to.
But then Borrenka took a bottle of wine from a barrel on the ship and poured it all over a large chest.
"You do have some sense, but since I'm here, do you think you can just destroy all the evidence?"
Xu Ning saw that Borrenka was about to smash the box with the thunder hammer. The blow would ignite the liquor, and with the thunder and fire raging, the documents inside would probably be reduced to ashes in an instant.
The wind elemental watched coldly. Just as Borrenka's hammer swung backward to its limit, the wind elemental performed an "eagle kick" in mid-air, striking the iron handle near the hammer head, causing Borrenka to stumble. Then, the wind elemental grabbed the box and threw it directly towards Xu Ning.
Borenka was furious, his eyes blazing with rage. The information stored in that box was absolutely not to be seen by the Inazuma officials.
Once leaked, the most direct consequence would be pushing Inazuma to the opposite side of Shifu. Although the former governor Sanbing had already achieved this effect by abandoning his duties and defecting, the information in his hands would make the matter more perfect and thorough.
But unsurprisingly, the box that had been flipping in the air landed at the drunkard's feet.
Borenka's shattered jaw prevented him from issuing any commands, but he knew that even if he could issue a command to snatch the box back with all his might, he would have no chance of taking the documents back from the man's feet. After all, the information cards circulating among the intelligence officers indicated that the drunkard possessed strength comparable to that of the governor.
When a figure wearing a cold, rocky mask and wielding a greatsword appeared and cleaved his ship from the gunwale to the keel in two with a single blow, Borrenka completely abandoned any thought of escape. With a final roar, he charged forward, swinging his thunder hammer.
Borenka and his men of the Fools launched a fearless charge against Xu Ning. Some of the Shogunate or Coral Palace soldiers who had defected to the Fools, after seeing the Fools all killed by Xu Ning and his two companions, quickly threw down their weapons and knelt down to surrender.
After seeing these people begging for mercy, Zheping immediately put away his spear.
Sihe snorted coldly, and only released the spell after breaking all the bones of the rebel soldier who was strangled by the water snake. "These people actually dare to beg for mercy? They don't even deserve to be locked in the dungeon."
With the overall situation settled, Xu Ning opened the wooden box at his feet and took out a thick stack of documents.
"Sihe is right. No one involved in these incidents is innocent."
