Magical Journey: The Other Shore Blooms on the Other Shore

Chapter 216 [Snow Woman] Beatrice, the Witch of Fate 1

Chapter 216 [Snow Woman] Beatrice, the Witch of Fate 1

Pompeii, the land of destiny.

Outsiders call this kingdom that, not because it has any special characteristics that warrant such a name. Previously, this kingdom was simply called Pompeii, without any prefix.

The reason this kingdom is called the Land of Destiny is because of a witch born in this kingdom, the Witch of Destiny, Ophelia.

Legend has it that when she was born, thunder roared, and the once peaceful and prosperous kingdom was plunged into chaos, as if it had fallen into purgatory. Ophelia's mother suffered a difficult childbirth, and it was as if Ophelia was not allowed to be born; everything seemed to be against her.

But for some unknown reason, Ophelia was eventually born successfully.

She herself seemed to have intellectual disabilities. While most children could read by the age of three, she couldn't utter a single coherent sentence until she was five. Back then, if someone had told others that she was the future president of the entire Magic Unification Association, they would probably have been laughed at.

Because Ophelia's father was a womanizer with many women outside the marriage, and because Ophelia was somewhat dim-witted, her father was rather cold towards his daughter.

Therefore, he didn't care about Ophelia's situation at all.

If he were to put in the effort to investigate, he would discover that it wasn't that Ophelia had intellectual disabilities, but rather that since birth, she had been able to see far too many fragments of memories in her mind that didn't belong to her.

These fragments may come from the past, and some may come from the future.

She couldn't tell the difference, and as a result, she was basically in a state of mental dementia. Sometimes she couldn't even tell what she was.

This situation gradually improved when she was 9 years old. The fragments she saw seemed to become controllable, and she discovered that she could predict the future to some extent.

It means exactly what it says: to see the future trajectory of someone's life, even if it's just a fragment, but what you see will definitely happen.

This was nothing short of an unprecedented miracle. Her talent was quickly discovered by a renowned witch, who then took her away for special training, which shaped her future.

Some say that Ophelia was lucky; if she hadn't been born by accident, if her talents hadn't been discovered, so many "what ifs" made her a witch.

But if Ophelia were to look at this matter, she would simply say that it was part of fate.

She can see the fates of others; birth, aging, sickness, and death are all before her eyes. She has tried to interfere, but the major events that are destined to happen will inevitably occur, and her attempts to interfere will surely result in a huge backlash.

Some minor issues can be avoided by anticipating them.

For example, if Ophelia sees someone about to gamble and incur a huge debt, and if she warns them and they heed her advice, then that misfortune can be averted.

That person's original life trajectory will be somewhat corrected, and he will no longer suffer the loss of his family and loved ones.

But if the person in front of her were to die, not only would Ophelia be unable to offer a warning, but any attempt to change the outcome would face a huge backlash, including but not limited to a sudden bolt of lightning striking down from the heavens, a mysterious and inexplicable force that would limit her power.

However, Ophelia cannot see her own destiny. This seems... to be an insurmountable obstacle, or perhaps, she herself is someone outside of destiny.

As for what constitutes a significant turning point and what doesn't, although the boundaries are ambiguous, Ophelia could clearly see it when she foresaw it. This feeling was indescribable, and until her death, probably only she truly understood it.

Most witches have a few quirks. As the saying goes, geniuses are people who are different from others. Ophelia also has her own special quirk—chuunibyou (middle school syndrome).

Perhaps because she didn't have much of a childhood, this "chuunibyou" (middle school syndrome) problem accompanied her throughout her life.

Young Ophelia read a book about God and the twelve apostles and became very fascinated by the story.

I want to become a God like that when I grow up, so she tried to become God.

It was that simple; she embarked on her journey to become God.

Through her precognition, she can see the general trajectory of the person in front of her in the future. In other words, she can roughly know who are the "chosen ones" in novels. Wouldn't it be cool if I trained such chosen ones to be my apostles in advance?

This kind of thing is, of course, permitted by fate.

She was merely the one who nurtured this chosen one in his life.

Moreover... although it seemed very mysterious, Ophelia always felt that the so-called cultivator was destined to be her.

It's quite incredible, isn't it? If she didn't have precognitive abilities, she would most likely have missed out on them, and they might not have reached the pinnacle of their lives. But it was precisely because of her precognitive abilities that Ophelia was able to make them who they are.

Ultimately, it was fate that first allowed Ophelia to see it.

Ophelia saw destiny, and so destiny revealed itself as she saw it.

Nobody knows.

As a professional chuunibyou (a person with delusions of grandeur), she uses the tarot cards she randomly created as a child for divination as her apostle code name.

From [The Fool] to [The World], she is determined to build an unparalleled apostleship, and she herself will be the God surrounded by stars. Just thinking about it is exciting.

The first person she encountered was Angela, who had been expelled from the Garden of Demiémie during a civil war.

Ophelia foresaw Angela's talent for creating magical dolls, so she took her on as her eldest apprentice. Although her teacher did almost nothing but teach magic and experiment, Angela's talent compensated for her teacher's laziness. Just like a revelation of fate, Angela became the epoch-making witch who ushered in the era of magical dolls.

She returned to the Garden of Demiea with her magical dolls and a group of like-minded companions, overthrew the monarchy, established a new garden, and became famous far and wide.

Then she met Lilith, who was staying at home when Ophelia captured her to be her second apprentice. The fate of this famous rain witch from the future water village is truly unique.

Although this Rain Witch's influence was not as great as her senior sister's, she created a unique set of climate-altering magic that no witch could surpass for hundreds of years after her death.

The witches that followed, such as Catherine the Death Witch, were similar.

Perhaps without Ophelia, they would have eventually become renowned witches, but perhaps without Ophelia's foresight and taking them as disciples, they might have remained just ordinary, nameless magicians—no experiment with controlled variables could prove Ophelia's existence was the key.

But that's not important. What's important is that everyone knows that this somewhat eccentric witch is the mentor of a dozen or so super witches, and these students genuinely respect this somewhat lazy guide on the path of magic.

These are all parts of Ophelia's history that are slowly fading away.
