Chapter 195 New Continent and the Commander

Chapter 195 New Continent and the Commander

The New World, at the edge of the Western Ocean, was first set foot on this continent by outsiders when Olina Kristoff led her expedition. This continent, isolated behind a wasteland atoll, was first touched by outsiders.

The Amerlancy Colony established the first city on this land—Xinxiang. This pioneering city became the starting point for this continent. Countless down-and-out people and dreamers from the Amerlancy homeland embarked on ships to the New World amidst ambiguous yet incredibly tempting words.

This small town, located on Long Island, is not actually adjacent to the New World. This meant that the residents of the New World were initially free from contact with the local natives. Although Long Island also produces a variety of New World specialties, including corn and cocoa, as the number of immigrants to Long Island increased, handicrafts soon emerged on the land, and local products began to supply the daily market, until the first machine factory from the mainland was established there.

Now, with the implementation of the Second National Industrial Plan in Amerlane, new orders for the New World Colony Administration have also been put into effect with the arrival of the first Liberty ship.

The colonial governor returned home with great joy, bringing with him the wealth he had accumulated there, and the political landscape of Long Island began to change rapidly.

First, according to the order signed by Alice, the Amelansi Colonial Administration was abolished, and a new department was established called the "Amelansi Frontier Development Bureau," which manages all actions related to the development and frontiering of the New World.

Long Island was officially incorporated into the Amelanan West administrative system as the "Long Island Region," which includes the special municipality of New Town and the prefecture-level city of Albany.

The appointed mayor was a pawn planted by Alice. Since the establishment of the Halvin People's Commune, "Commander" Guevara has become the focus of South Amelansi, and the Halvin People's Commune under his influence has made many people feel uneasy.

Alice faces numerous pressures every day. The growing bourgeoisie in the country, if not hating him to the bone, at least fears him. After the revolution in Halvin, all the noble assets within it were confiscated. Despite strong opposition, Guevara transformed this enormous wealth into Halvin's public property and established Halvin's industrial enterprises in the name of the commune.

Today, Halvin, once a remote border town and a manor used by nobles for their lavish tea parties, has been transformed into a park open to everyone. Strolling through it and enjoying its beauty is no longer limited to a few people, but to everyone who passes by.

The extravagant mansions of the nobility were stripped of their gilded decorations and sold on the market, with the proceeds used to fund construction. Halvin became the first town in the Versailles region to be connected by a paved road. With the help of the road, Halvin built an electricity supply system, schools, and factories.

Although no one knows what the future holds for the Harvin People's Commune, today Harvin is indeed one of the few relatively developed towns in the south, and uniquely so, a town with public ownership as its main form of ownership.

As one of the driving forces behind all of this, Guevara naturally faced pressure from all sides. The emerging bourgeoisie read the various reports and news about the Halvin incident over and over again. He could incite people to riot and seize the old aristocracy, and he could certainly incite the people to seize their wealth!

Holding this view, people continued to exert influence on De La Leyer's side, but Alice could not simply go against the tide—the bourgeoisie was still a progressive force, and she still needed to use capitalism to put pressure on traditional feudalism in order to hope to lead the country onto the path of progress.

So, after making secret contact with Guevara, Alice promoted him to the Long Island region under the pretext of a promotion.

For many, Long Island was no different from exile; only the poor who could not survive would embark on a journey to the New World based on the words of intermediaries.

Disease, natural disasters, indigenous people, the New World lacked infrastructure and means of production, and relied almost entirely on local supplies. Even the position of regional chief held no appeal for the new local elites.

Guevara accepted the position, the Farsighted Alliance sent its supporters, and the capitalists were overjoyed.

After all, whatever Che Guevara did in the New World was none of their business; at least no one would be killed by the peasants.

Against this backdrop, Guevara set foot on the land of the New World with only simple luggage and a FAL automatic rifle given to him by Alice.

Accompanying him were members of the Visionary Alliance and the National Progressive Alliance, whose first step was to take over the local government.

After reviewing the documents from the former colonial governor, he seemed to see the situation in Halvin back then. On Long Island, the plantation economy was almost the main economic entity, and the few industrial enterprises on Long Island could only produce cloth and clothing, which were supplied with raw materials from cotton plantations in Carolina, the New World, outside of Long Island.

The labor force for these plantations came from the local indigenous people—elves.

The main race in the New World is the elves, but before the arrival of the Emeralians, the native elves had never formed a unified nation and developed large cities like their counterparts in the east.

They had no iron tools, no wheels, and the New World never had tamable horses or oxen, which meant that the region never entered the era of agricultural civilization.

The elves of the New World used bronze weapons, which were no match for the colonists' firearms, let alone their bows, swords, and spears.

The colonists from Amelancy used breech-loading rifles, which were far more advanced than the weapons used by their predecessors thousands of light-years away when they first arrived on their new continent.

This also meant that the colonists of the New World could capture hundreds of slaves to fill their plantations with just a pull of the trigger, while the elves planted and harvested cotton, corn, and wheat under the guns of their guns.

There is no doubt that slavery violated the spirit of the Amerlane Constitution, but in a land far from home, no one expected the Amerlane Supreme Court to hold a hearing and send police to their aid.

The use of elven slaves has become common knowledge.

Guevara is now facing just such a situation, and the vast differences between Long Island and the mainland are causing him great distress.

It's worth noting that Halvin was once an elven town.
