Chapter 278 The City God Temple Turmoil 5

Chapter 278 The City God Temple Turmoil 5

Shen Lan walked into the garden and felt that the flowers were so colorful and the scenery was even more beautiful than that in the palace.

A woman was already sitting in the pavilion, directing a group of young maids to pick flowers from the flower bushes.

"Hey you over there? Come here."

Shen Lan wanted to leave quietly, but was called over by the other party.

Having nowhere to avoid it, she took a few steps forward and bowed to the other person from a distance, saying, "Greetings, Madam. I am a coroner from the Ministry of Justice. Seeing that you are six months pregnant, I was afraid of offending you and dared not come forward."

Upon closer inspection, it became clear that the woman was pregnant, though her belly was not noticeably protruding, suggesting she was not far along in her pregnancy.

Upon hearing that it was a coroner, the woman was so frightened that she covered her face with her sleeve and shooed him away, saying, "What filthy thing! Get out of here, don't defile my place!"

Shen Lan had been waiting for these words, so she turned around and continued walking forward.

She didn't know where Li Ye had been placed, so she could only wander around and look around.

Just when she was worried about not having a proper reason, this low-ranking concubine of the crown prince provided her with one.

She didn't even know the Crown Prince had been assassinated, and she still had the mood to pick flowers here. It's clear that this concubine wasn't very favored, or perhaps she had been plotted against by someone.

However, none of this concerns Shen Lan.

She walked through the garden, and several paths lay before her. Just as she was hesitating, a young maidservant carrying hot water passed by.

She lifted the toolbox in her hand and stepped forward to ask, "Sister, may I ask where the Imperial Physician Lan who came in earlier went? I am his medicine apprentice, and I was delayed in getting the medicine."

The maid glanced at the box in her hand and asked, "Are you a female physician in the palace?"

Shen Lan replied shyly, "I haven't completed my apprenticeship yet, so I can't be considered a female doctor. I'm just helping my master."

"Then come with me."

Shen Lan followed her for a while, then turned into a quiet little courtyard.

There were guards outside the courtyard, but they didn't say anything when they saw the maid bring a woman in.

With her attire and face, Shen Lan doesn't look like a bad person at all.

Besides, this is the Crown Prince's residence; anyone who can enter has undergone multiple layers of checks.

As Shen Lan approached the house, she smelled a bloody odor.

The maid paused at the door, looking somewhat disgusted, and handed the basin of water to Shen Lan, saying, "You can go in now."

Without saying a word, Shen Lan carried the basin of water into the house.

Through a curtain, she saw Imperial Physician Lan sitting by the bed, while a man lying on the bed was emitting suppressed groans.

"The arrowhead is poisoned, and pulling it out will be painful. It will require herbal medicine. Can the young master bear it?"

The injured person on the bed replied in a hoarse voice, "Yes, pull it out."

It was indeed Li Ye's voice.

Shen Lan wrung out a damp cloth and went inside, walking straight to the bedside. She asked, "Imperial Physician Lan, His Highness the Crown Prince sent me here to help. How is the injured person?"

I felt that the imperial physician looked familiar on the way here, and sure enough, it was the same imperial physician I had seen at the Marquis of Pingyang’s residence before.

The other person turned around, recognized Shen Lan, and clicked their tongue in amazement: "Miss Shen, what brings you to the Crown Prince's residence?"

"I came here with my family to investigate the case."

"You've come at the perfect time; I needed someone to lend a hand."

Unbeknownst to the imperial physician, the person on the bed had turned red in the face and was staring blankly at Shen Lan.

Shen Lan didn't even look at him, acting as if she didn't know him.

“He was poisoned. Although I gave him an antidote to temporarily suppress the poison, a special medicine is still needed to detoxify him.”

Shen Lan nodded, glancing at Li Ye's wound. Fortunately, the poisoned arrow had hit his arm, and the exposed wound was black with a hint of purple.

"Then you go and prepare the medicine; I'll take care of this."

The imperial physician stroked his beard and chuckled, "You're the perfect girl to be my apprentice, but unfortunately you're unwilling."

Shen Lan brought in her toolbox, opened it, and said, "I prefer dissecting corpses to saving lives."

The Imperial Physician Lan laughed even louder. "Yes, you are a coroner, but the hobby of dissecting corpses sounds like something sinister. You must not say that again."

Shen Lan joked, "I only say that because you're one of us."

This imperial physician was not a decent person either. Shen Lan had little contact with him, but she had a pretty good grasp of his temperament.

Before leaving, Physician Lan handed her a bottle of anesthetic powder, saying, "Mix it with water and give it to him; it will relieve his pain."

After he left, Shen Lan immediately composed herself and asked in a deep voice, "Was it worth taking that arrow?"

Li Ye didn't dare look at her and asked in a low voice, "How did you get in? Find a way to leave quickly, don't worry about me."

Shen Lan moved the candlestick on the table over, mixed the anesthetic with water and fed it to him, and then began to examine the wound.

The wound wasn't deep, and the arrowhead was just an ordinary one. The poison caused the area around the wound to become red and swollen, making it look a bit scary.

"Was this self-inflicted injury a ruse to gain the Crown Prince's trust? What do you want to do by his side?"

Li Ye remained silent.

Seeing that his eyes were unfocused, Shen Lan realized that the anesthetic was starting to take effect, so she put the problem aside.

She heated the scalpel over the candle flame for a while, then cut open the flesh around the wound and pulled out the poisoned arrow.

Fresh blood kept gushing out, the dark, poisonous blood staining his monk's robe and bedsheets.

Shen Lan tied a rope around the joint above his wound to stop the blood from flowing back, and then began to clean the wound.

This poison shouldn't be deadly, otherwise Li Ye wouldn't have been able to hold on for so long.

Once the blood flowing from the wound was no longer dark black, Shen Lan disinfected it with alcohol before beginning to stitch it up.

The anesthetic administered by Imperial Physician Lan was not very effective; although Li Ye was drowsy, he did not fall into a deep sleep.

He slightly opened his eyes to watch Shen Lan treat him, and even in extreme pain, he could only bite his lip tightly.

Seeing that his lip was bleeding from biting it, Shen Lan fed him a painkiller she had made herself and said softly, "If you can get what you want by suffering this, it will be worth it. But you should know that there are too many people around the Crown Prince who are loyal to him and he will not lack people to shield him from arrows."

"Hmm." Li Ye thought absentmindedly: Was it a mistake to run up and block the arrow back then?

"Also, you can tell me what you want to do, maybe I can help you?"

Li Ye was in a state of mental weakness and almost spilled everything.

At this moment, Imperial Physician Lan entered and loudly asked, "The medicine has arrived, but has the arrow been removed?"

Li Ye opened his eyes wide, tilted his head to the inside of the bed, and stopped talking to Shen Lan.

Shen Lan sighed inwardly.

This was the only chance to enter the Crown Prince's residence. I failed to find out his intentions, and there was nothing I could do to help him afterward.

Unless she finds a way to take the person away now.

"Wow, the wounds are all bandaged up. That was fast."

Instead of removing the gauze to examine him, Imperial Physician Lan handed the medicine to Shen Lan, saying, "Quickly, feed it to him. He'll be fine after a nap."

Shen Lan nodded, helped Li Ye sit up, and held the bowl to his lips.

Upon seeing this, Imperial Physician Lan jokingly remarked, "As expected, you don't know how to take care of people. The medicine is still hot; you have to blow on it to cool it down one spoonful at a time before feeding it to me."

Before Shen Lan could react, Li Ye spoke first.

"No need, I'll drink it like this." He said, bringing his mouth to the rim of the bowl and taking a quick sip.

The scalding heat was so intense that I couldn't swallow it.

Shen Lan was both annoyed and amused. She moved the bowl away, blew on it to cool it down, and fed it to him.

Seeing the young monk blush, Physician Lan couldn't help but joke, "This young monk's mind is unsettled. He's still attached to worldly affairs. Why not just return to secular life?"

Shen Lan nodded seriously, "Since I can't be a monk, I might as well be an ordinary citizen."
