Chapter 148 Swift Victory: Chu City Falls

Chapter 148 Swift Victory: Chu City Falls

"What's going on? Why did they suddenly order an attack on Chu City?" Gao Kuang was baffled. Hadn't they already devised a safe night raid plan? Why were they suddenly so reckless as to attack the city?

"Don't ask about things that shouldn't be asked about the commander-in-chief..." Gao Zhan was afraid that he would talk too much and anger Lu He, so he told him not to ask around.

Chao Huaiyuan, standing to the side, seemed to be answering a question, yet also talking to himself: "General Lu received a secret letter from Her Highness the Eldest Princess; there must be some trouble in the palace..."

"Oh? This is a big deal, a change in the palace." Gao Zhan's brows twitched. His father probably wasn't involved, otherwise he would have sent a message to the two brothers long ago. As he pondered, he glanced at Gao Kuang. That innocent and foolish face probably hadn't received any orders in private.

"Brother, that look you're giving me makes me uncomfortable," Gao Kuang couldn't help but shudder. "It sounds like you're insulting me?"

“Uh, no, no,” Gao Zhan looked away. “Let’s go, it’s time to march and attack the city.”

The original plan was to burn down Yucheng and then launch a rapid attack on Chucheng by vehicle the following night. However, the plan has changed, and they are now driving their military vehicles to Chucheng overnight, hoping to arrive during the day.

Lu He couldn't care less about anything else; her worry for Li Cen's safety made her lose her usual composure.

The excavators at the rear couldn't go that fast, so only off-road vehicles and military trucks could keep up with the siege. She abandoned all the ancient siege equipment, including battering rams used to ram city gates, and marched lightly equipped.

Lu He had already dispatched Bai Yu with fifty military vehicles, a high-voltage power grid, a generator, and five thousand troops to the north to support Li Cen. Meanwhile, she needed to quickly eliminate the King of the Swan.

"Once we arrive in Chu City, I'll need a demolition machine and a hydraulic breaker." Lu He was now used to directly requesting items from the system.

"You really know how to pick expensive things. It's a good thing you don't need to use points, otherwise you would already owe me hundreds of thousands of points after this trip," the system complained.

"This isn't something I owe you; you're using these points to buy your own life." Lu He was perfectly clear-headed. This whole thing was the system's own mistake from the start. It didn't want to be punished, so it could only let Lu He complete the mission smoothly in this comic. It had no choice but to obey Lu He for its own sake.

"Well... I was just worried that you'd get too used to this kind of overpowered life and become too dependent on me, so you wouldn't be able to complete the comic book challenges in the future..." Knowing he was in the wrong, he quickly tried to make amends.

"Whether my mission fails or not at that time, it will have nothing to do with you, right? Whether I live or die will not affect you, will it?"

The system hesitated for a moment but couldn't come up with a rebuttal, so it had no choice but to shut up and remain silent.

As dawn broke, the army stormed to the walls of Chu City.

King Hu was terrified and scrambled out of bed. Hearing the shouts and cries of battle outside, he wondered, "What's going on?" He opened the window and looked towards the city wall, where he saw a huge iron ball swinging in the air, crashing into the wall. The section of the wall that hit it shattered into pieces like tofu, sending dust flying everywhere.

"What is this thing?" King Hu was still shocked and puzzled.

"Your Highness, King Hu! Run!" Mo Gan rushed into the room, grabbed King Hu who was still not dressed, and ran out.

"My pants, my pants..." Hu Wang frantically pulled at his pants as he ran out with Mo Gan. Only after leaving the governor's mansion did they see that the enemy's army had already poured into the streets.

"When did the city attack?" King Hu seemed to be dreaming, as he clearly hadn't heard anything.

"Just now!" Morgan's face was covered in a mixture of dirt and sweat, and bloodstains were visible on his helmet.

"The shouts just now were an attack on the city?" King Hu was even more confused: "Where are our soldiers defending the city? The city was breached in an instant? What's the difference between this and the gates being opened?" He was also a little exasperated.

"The city walls are gone, what are we defending now...? They used some kind of mechanical magic, the walls turned to dust..." Morgan recalled how they had just been setting up their formation on the city walls, nocking bows to set fire to the enemy's troops below, when suddenly, a colossal object appeared out of nowhere, standing outside the city walls. Huge iron balls and pillars were within arm's reach, the towering mechanism terrifying. Before they could even react, the iron balls and pillars slammed into the city walls... Instantly, the gatehouse collapsed, and they fell into the rubble along with the crumbling walls...

Mogan struggled to crawl out of the ruins. Looking at the dead soldiers around him, his first thought was to protect the King of the Swan. So, ignoring the enemy army's shouts and rush into the city, he fled straight towards the prefect's mansion.

"Traitors! Where do you think you're going!" Chao Huaiyuan ran into the fleeing Hu Wang and Mo Gan and stopped them.

"Your Highness, you go first!" Mo Gan pushed the King aside, drew his greatsword, and rushed forward.

In an instant, the two were locked in a fierce battle, their movements so fast that it was impossible to see their actions clearly.

King Hu picked up a knife from the dead soldiers on the ground, then turned and fled towards the back gate of the city.

Seeing that the King of the Swan was about to run away, Chao Huaiyuan blocked Mo Gan's opening with his sword, and then quickly drew his signal arrow.

A flock of black birds flew in from the sky toward this direction.

They quickly locked onto the swan king running on the ground. Countless black birds swooped down. Upon closer inspection, they were more than twenty drones, connected in a spiderweb pattern. These were the tools that Lu He had modified for capture.

Suddenly, the Swan King felt a cold wind whistling behind him. Turning around, he saw countless black flying objects pulling a net rushing towards him, and he was immediately terrified. Before he could dodge, he was caught in the fine net and stumbled and fell.

However, the net didn't seem very strong; the wire was very thin. The swan king held his knife horizontally, preparing to cut through the iron spider web, but suddenly felt a sharp pain all over his body, followed by numbness, and then excruciating pain. He couldn't speak, his limbs were out of control, his vision went black, and he collapsed to the ground.

Lu He held the remote control, looked at the monitor screen, and sneered, "How does this electric grid feel?"
