Chapter 277 277: 277
Chapter 277 277: 277
"Like I said… I don't remember correctly. Perhaps weeks." Yang Ze once again replied to Yun Ning's question while she merely smiled in response.
She kept on tapping on the chair for a while before flicking her finger, sending a small exquisite token towards Yang Ze.
"What's this?" Yang Ze didn't know what this woman was trying to accomplish. There were innumerable questions in his mind, like what was the relationship between her and Lin Meilin, what was she doing in this place, and how did she manage to guess his identity this easily? But before he could even ask anything, Yun Ning handed him a token before speaking in a leisurely tone.
"You should be thankful to me, otherwise you would have been stuck in the inner city for god knows how long."
"Huh!?" Yang Ze suddenly thought of something as he couldn't help but ask in a doubtful voice.
"The new recruitments…."
"This was your idea?"
Before Yang Ze could even finish this question, the smile on Yun Ning's face had already given him his answer.
"I see." A lot of things made sense now. Earlier, Yang Ze was wondering if it was his luck that the rare event of recruitment took place. But now, judging by Yun Ning's reaction, he knew who was responsible for it.
There was just one thing he couldn't quite understand.
"How did you know I was the one Lin Meilin sent?"
"I mean, how did you even guess my identity?"
From the day he arrived in this city, he had been cautious enough not to get in the limelight. He had been as low-key as possible in order to achieve his goal. But even after all this, Yun Ning was still able to know all about him… He just couldn't understand how she did that. As far as he could recall, he never met her, even in his disguise.
"Heh." Yun Ning didn't give him an immediate answer but gazed at him from top to bottom as if looking at an idiot. After blinking at him twice, she gently exhaled a mouthful of air.
"Looks like Meilin didn't tell you a lot of things."
"Had you known what Heaven Step powerhouses are capable of doing, you wouldn't have asked such a stupid question."
"I…" Yang Ze wanted to retort, but found himself at a loss for words.
"Just take the token and go into the Imperial palace. After you have been assigned a new identity and new duties, you can come find me here."
Without waiting for him to speak further, she simply waved her hand and with that, Yang Ze's figure disappeared from there before he found himself outside the house.
"..." Yang Ze took one last glance at the small house before turning around and heading in the opposite direction.
What a joke… even though she didn't do anything to him, god knows what she had been planning in her mind.
He didn't know her, and even if he did, he wouldn't trust her. After all, a woman who had planned for god knows how long to kill her own daughter… how could he ever trust someone like her?
If he dared to follow her arrangements, Yang Ze wouldn't even know how he died. Following her command would be akin to helping her sell him and then even counting the money for her.
'I should leave this damned place.' This was the only thought in his mind. He didn't expect Lin Meilin to sell him out like this. But since she had already made her move, he wasn't going to follow her arrangements any longer. As for the mission…
"Heh." Yang Ze merely scoffed in response, but one could feel a sense of desolation in it.
It would be a lie to say he wasn't feeling anything. After going through so much, he was beginning to trust Lin Meilin.
After all, she saved his life and even took him as her only disciple. She was the one who taught him how to fight and use his talents to the best of his abilities. And for her to tell Yun Ning about him… To Yang Ze, it felt like a betrayal.
Trying to control the surging emotions in his mind, he just wanted to get out of this place, find a place to pull himself together and then focus on his next course of action,
But before he could even take a step forward, Yun Ning's lazy voice sounded in his ears.
"Oh. I almost forgot to tell you."
With a brief pause, her playful voice sounded in his ears once again.
"Don't even think about trying to run."
"Otherwise… heh."
She didn't complete her sentence, but the meaning behind her words was obvious.
Yang Ze merely clenched his fists in response before gritting his teeth and glancing at the house behind him from the corner of his eyes. Only then did he walk towards the Imperial Palace.
"Hmm…" The moment Yang Ze walked in the direction of the Imperial Palace, Yun Ning finally opened her eyes and gazed deeply at his departing back with her eyes occasionally flashing.
—-----------------------------
On the other hand, Yang Ze, completely unaware of everything behind him, finally stood in front of the Imperial Palace. A place that he had been looking forward to entering since the moment he entered the city.
Just like every other person, he too was curious about this place and wanted to know what was so special about it.
Even though he had seen it from afar, he was still taken aback by just how huge the Imperial Palace truly was.
The entire palace was constructed from blue stones that were giving off a hazy glow. Compared to the other buildings, the style of construction was different as well.
Yang Ze couldn't quite get his fingers on it, but he felt like he was familiar with this style of building. It wasn't until a few minutes had passed that he suddenly widened his eyes in realisation.
"A church!?" Yang Ze's lower jaw almost dropped to the ground as he gazed deeply at the Palace in front of him.
He didn't know why he would think like that. The building in front of him looked nothing like a church, but to him, it felt that way. It was such an absurd idea that even he couldn't help but laugh at it.
"What am I even thinking?" How could there be a church in a cultivation world? And even if there was, what were they going to worship? The more he thought about it, the more absurd his idea seemed.
In the end, he merely shook his head, throwing all those distracting thoughts out and walking towards the palace.
"Hold! Identify yourself." Before he could even reach the palace, a stern voice sounded in Yang Ze's ears.
Raising his head, he followed the direction of the voice, only to be greeted by two guards sitting in front of the giant, exquisite door.
"I am the newly recruited member." After taking a look at their personal panels and seeing that both guards were at the late stage of Pulse opening, Yang Ze couldn't help but click his tongue.
"New recruit?" The two women glanced at each other in confusion before asking in a hesitant voice.
"Any proof?"
Even though Yang Ze was taken aback by their reaction, he still took out the token and handed it to them.
The two of them observed the token for a good while before nodding in response.
"Okay. You can go."
After that, they simply stopped paying any attention to him.
Even though their interaction was short, Yang Ze was sure that they weren't acting. The two guards seemed genuinely confused when he told them that he was a new recruit.
"????" But he didn't think too much about it for the moment. After placing the token back in his pocket, he headed towards the giant gate that seemed to be enveloped in constant darkness.
Earlier, he didn't pay attention to this matter, but now that he was standing right in front of the Imperial palace, he felt it even more clearly than before.
"There's no one?"
This place was the heart of the entire city, or should he say, an entire kingdom.
Usually, this place should have been bustling with activities, people entering and exiting, as well as all kinds of things, but other than eerie silence, there was nothing.
From the moment he started walking towards the Palace to his interaction with the guards and now that he was finally going to enter it… he didn't see a single soul.
It was as if the entire place was abandoned.
"What the hell is going on?" First, it was the sudden appearance of Yun Ning, then this abandoned palace… The more he thought about it, the less sense it all made.
Standing in front of the door, Yang Ze even felt his heart beating faster and a sense of foreboding overwhelmed him, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't figure out what was going on.
"Screw it." With Yun Ning already aware of his existence, the worst had already happened.
"But just in case…" He didn't know what he was going to face behind those doors. Even with his current strength at the peak of Vein Expansion, he couldn't see what was behind those doors. The entire place was shrouded in darkness, making it impossible for anyone to see through.
"I should be prepared." Exhaling a mouthful of air, Yang Ze patted his clothes, but the moment he did, his eyes furrowed in confusion.
"What the…"
"Did I bring it with me?" From the day he stepped into the first stage of Mystic Nether Art, he could manifest anything he wanted to.
Because of it, he usually never carried anything on him.
But just now, when he patted his clothes, he felt something round there. It merely took him an instant to realise what it was.
"Clock Of Time!" Muttering to himself, Yang Ze reached inside his robe to grab it, all the while his face was filled with confusion.
He was sure that because of its cooldown, he didn't bring it with him.
With a face full of confusion, Yang Ze took it out and the moment he did, the colour on his face drained, and his breathing almost stopped.
IN his hand, the small, round clock was covered in a dark fog. It was as if the darkness itself was seeping out of it.
"What the hell is going on?" Yang Ze tried to use his internal energy, but nothing changed.
And just when he was wondering if this thing was broken or something had happened, an illusory panel appeared in front of him that almost made him faint in response.
Above the clock that was constantly oozing off a dark mist, a small translucent window visible only to Yang Ze was displaying just two words.
[Fate's Backlash]
